[quote=fiveholio;1804649]Isn't it kind of d!ckish to do this on potentially the day the Cup is awarded? He couldn't wait a week?/QUOTE]
Uh... the first post in this thread said there was no official announcement yet.
The source said that Blake is waiting until the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals because he did not want to be a distraction while the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers are still playing.
I'd love to see the reaction around here if the Kings used similar hardball/take it or leave it offers with a player like Doughty. Blake didn't make the best choices, but the Kings are just as much to blame for the situation.
As for him no waiving his no trade clause - why exactly is that a dick move on his part. He negotiated a contract, the Kings agreed to him getting a no trade clause and then they wanted to break it. If anything, it's a dick move by the team. Lombardi was handing NTCs out to everyone at the time, I don't blame a player for wanting the team to live up to their end of the bargain.
Flake: "I want $9.5M".
Kings: "$9M"
Flake: "No, I want $9.5! I want Pronger money."
Yeah, no hardball being played by Blake there.
It turned out great though.
One game of watching Deadmarsh a King is better than watching almost an entire career of Blake.
Yes, eventually the Kings said "take it or leave it", but...see below.
He claimed that he didn't want to waive the NTC because he wanted to stick around and help with the young players on the Kings, etc., then when he got a "take it or leave it" offer from San Jose, he takes it, thus rendering his claim that he wanted to stick around bullcrap, and how about the way he handled that hardball, take it or leave it" offer from SJ?
Goodbye *******! Make sure the door hits you in the ass on the way out!
He's essentially been retired for the last 5 years...
For those about to boo, I salute you!![]()
Buck Flake in the Eye with a spork! BOOOOOOO! I can think of 15 other names that should be retired with that number before Blake gets it. (Any Kings player who has worn it for even one game!)
Here is my "as close to perfect" scenario: Retire #19 with Goring and then retire #4 with Jim Fox (yes he did wear that number for a short period of time.).
Problem solved...you honor two great Kings players and prevent Blake from getting that honor.
