at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Lombardi sleeping behind the wheel again? :P
That means less Ott next season! :D
Actually, they are tanking to get the 1st pick to grab Seth Jones and rebuild their backend!

Hey, gescom, what do you recon is the best part of "Nieuwendyk" to insert a "lol" into?
Whitney, Roy, Benn, Morrow, Eriksson, Ryder, Glennie, Nystrom, Fiddler?
heh.
That is a bad trade by Buffalo to ONLY GET Ott and Pardy.
Whoever the GM is of Buffalo Sabres odd to be fired because of this trade.
Actually, its not. Roy is not the same player he was, and he's UFA next summer and would likely NOT re-sign in Buffalo. He's going UFA.
Ott is made of sandpaper. He's one of those players you hate to play against, but love on your team. They need someone with that MO.
After thinking this over a bit, what I THINK Niewy is doing is preparing to blow it up. Sure, he's got 6 NHL caliber guys up front, but when they get their asses handed to them regularly this season by the Wings/Hawks/Preds/Blues (Who are the 4 playoff teams right now in that division), he's got another deadline UFA to deal for prospects and picks and blow it up right. Lehtonen/Roy/Morrow/Ryder/Nystrom, when they aren't in playoff contention, are certainly going to the highest bidders for prospects and picks.
