PPG players with a cap-hit of $5.25M isn't that bad. Contract length is an issue though.
supposedly they both want to finish their careers in Sweden, so there's no anticipation of either fulfilling their contracts.
now when something like this is already essentially laid out to point of being a mere thought, i cannot see how the league can approve of a deal like this, which would be beyond obvious cap circumvention.
Burke should keep his mouth shut.
He said publicly he wants them.
The twins and their agent knows he has the bucks and the cap space.
Nice corner to be painted into. I'm glad our GM, for the most part, S(s)TFU, about his intentions.
Yeah, it's not a horrible deal value/cap wise. It's not a super discount either though and it's going to be hard to find a team that can spend $11.5 mil a year on both of them, since obviously they're a package deal.
But I'd imagine the league would watch any contract that's severely frontloaded and then sees them making uncer $2 mil in the final few years, especially when it's pretty well known they want to play the end of their careers in Sweden.
Of course I think it's pretty nuts for the NHL to allow deals that long anyways. I know why teams want players to sign those deals, I understand that. But a 12 year deal covers the end of this CBA, probably the entire term of the next CBA, and into a 3rd CBA, assuming the NHL and NHLPA aren't dumb enough to have another season-long lockout. No one can predict where the league is going to be that far down the road. Why as a player would you sign something so long?
I really like the Sedins, and they fill two gargantuan kings' holes. the length of the contract is brutal, and who the hell knows if they can repeat 82pts each w/ this team next year or beyond.
Their cap hits are NOT bad considering their productivity. The cap WILL RISE AGAIN, their deals are not nearly as bad as other players. it's the length of the deal that's concerning. someone is going to **** over a team with one of these handshake deals that they'll retire or go back to sweden or whatever, I don't want the Kings to be left holding the bag. Maybe if there were some option in the 6th year for the Kings to exercise to terminate the deal or some ****, but I think the CBA doesn't allow for that.
I know it's not the best hockey source, but ESPN rumours mentioned that the Sedin twins want 12 year contracts at $63 million each. That comes down to $5.25 million/yr. each. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the twins, and don't really want them on the Kings, but for that price are you willing to sign them. Just note that you're spending $10.5 million/yr. on 2 players.
these long term deals are getting out of control.
Cornell Hockey - LETS GO RED!
"I love this f***ing team right here."
So 5.25 each for players that score 82 pts?
and it fills two mammoth gaps in the Kings organization?
Sedin/Sedin/Brown
Frolov/Kopitar/JDub
Zus/Stoll/Simmonds
Bye fro, hi Loktionov or Moller in 2010/2011. Cap stays pretty manageable.
Kopitar probably has the best season of his career with another center protecting him in the lineup.
This is what Dean means by "I got chips to play with"
Sedin's live up to their obligation of early retirement in Sweden at some point.
Cap escalates, 5.25 for productive players doesn't seem that terrible.
At some point...

I dunno. the reactionary hockey-knowledgeless crowd will have fun with this one though. They always seem to forget that it seems like the best teams every year are paying star players a ****load of money, and are up against the cap.
