Still blows me away that Neal only gets five. Everyone talking about how defenseless Orpik was, Marchand was far more defenseless and unsuspecting.

I agree, not enough for either Neal or Thornton. One of the biggest complaints about suspensions is how injuries play a part. Some people think they shouldn't be considered at all and hate the current system that seems to suspend only players who cause injuries or apparent injuries. I think injuries should play a part in the suspension but as an added punishment on top of whatever the act warrants. I think the rules should be stated clearly, like 5 games for head shot, 3 games for vicious boarding, multipliers for repeat offenders and then have the amount of games a player misses from the injury added to the suspension. So if a guy loses 5 games from a concussion, the suspended player sits out those 5 games and then serves his given suspension. A possible revisiting of the suspension could take place for players who are injured beyond 10 or 20 games, which I'm sure the PA would demand a way for appealing the system.

Especially since he's a repeat, repeat offender.

Exactly. I don't have a problem with Thornton's suspension but Neal getting a relative slap on the wrist for intentionally kneeing a player in the head is indefensible. Shanahan and the league have their heads up their asses.

This really seems to be the one thing all hockey fans agree on.

Not sure if Thorton has appealed but this from John Shannon

So...here's one for you...NHLPA say the Neutral Arbitrator cannot increase Thornton's suspension...and the NHL says he can increase it.

What do you mean. This stuff happens every game. It's shanabans fault for not suspending everyone and since he hasn't fined their moms yet, it's the leagues fault.
