Wonder if Weber is happy that the preds matched?
The funniest thing that could happen is if Philly just plain stinks be it because of injuries or regression by their core and end up with a top 3 pick.
They might do so when the window opens next summer, especially if Weber wanted to leave and asked for a trade after Suter left like somer rumors are saying. Current Twitter rumors are that this contract does not contain a No Trade Clause. By getting a loan to cover the first year, they not only are protecting their asset, but they now have improved its value because it has no movement restrictions whatsoever.
If the Preds were truly talking to the Flyers, and the Flyers were very much interested but frustrated because Poile turned and started shopping him and then tendered the offer, then yes I think he is going to get dealt.
Now, Poile has no contraints on moving him anywhere he chooses next summer, and Weber has no control on where he plays for the rest of his career. A team like Edmonton, which has had trouble attracting players of his caliber via Free Agency, will be inclined to severely overpay for a Norris trophy player of his caliber, and he has no choice but to show up there and play. If the Oilers get the first pick again and take Jones, they can wait a month and package him with a couple of their younger forwards, and Shea Weber is exiled to Edmonton for the rest of his days.
I have kind of re-thought my stance on this. Considering that he does not have an NTC or NMC, I don't think he asks for a trade like he did before. I have never thought that Nashville really wanted to trade Weber, they just thought they couldn't sign him and tested the waters. Now, I don't think Weber demands a trade because he won't be able to choose where he could go.
If he was absolutely opposed to playing in Nashville for the foreseeable future, he wouldn't have signed that offer sheet. He knew that there was a good chance that the Predators would match it.
