He might have thought the Preds wouldn't match it, but Weber's a fool if he didn't understand that Nashville and perhaps several other clubs could control his future residency over the next 14 years.

I don't think Nashville trades him anytime soon. Especially since it is to Weber's benefit to play well and put a good face on this now that he realizes the Preds can ship him off to any team in the NHL.

I haven't a clue as to where the CBA is going but Brian Burke has been pushing for the ability to trade "cap space" or maybe even cash (something the NHL hasn't liked in the past). So maybe things will change making it easier to trade.

On the other hand maybe after the big chuck of the salary has been paid maybe Weber is more trade-able? I suppose it depends on the CAP at that point...I dunno.

Whatever the case, the new CBA might have an affect on this down the road.

I am sure another team would not have a problem taking Weber in a trade. I just don't see why Nashville would trade him for many years after just paying him approximately $28M in the first calendar year of his deal. The other team would have to overpay by an extreme amount in any trade in order for that to happen.

Essentially, Nashville is going to pay Weber $28M before they even are allowed to trade him under the rules of the current CBA.
