Default Shea Weber and the Arbitration

I don't know what is the deal with the Arbitration hearing with Shea Weber an all. It should of been announced awhile ago today at some point in the late morning time.

Sure, (coming from what I read) that the Nashville Predators want to try and fight over the fact of how they feel Mr. Weber is not worth more than $6.5M per season.

Nashville Predators | Just another Tennessean.com Blogs weblog

Even though I highly doubt that Nashville will just walk away from Shea Weber (but anything possible). But if Nashville Preds did, that it wouldn't look so good for Nashville Predators org..

Nashville Predators has lost enough really good players even over money because either they feel that they won't be-able to afford that player(s) salary due to being a small market team or they just too cheap. Who REALLY KNOWS?

That if Nashville does not resign Shea Weber, I don't see how any long that the fans they have left could still support them after knowing soo many players they have had before just let them go with players like; Paul Kariya, Thomas Vokoun, Kimmo Timmonen, Zidlicky, Hartnell, and etc...

If this team wants to get serious with their team, they have to show the fans they are serious about putting a team together and paying them what they are worth.

If it is because their fans don't show-up to fill-up all seats in the house, then they need better marketing to get them in their seats.

The predators elected to file for arbitration to prevent other teams from offering to Weber. As a result they can't decline any offer made to him and will have to agree to whatever the judge rules.

The judge can rule on either a 1 or 2 year deal. A 1 year deal will put them in the exact same situation they are in now next year and a 2 year deal will put Weber into UFA when that contract expires.

I like how every preds player you mentioned was over the hill or over rated when the preds got rid of them...

Well, that's what happens when you play with fire. Sometimes you're going to get burned.

This situation has nothing to do with the Preds being too cheap or too poor to re-sign Weber. Poile has been clearing salary, and had a $7M gap already to go, just to reach the cap floor, in order to get Weber re-signed long-term. The hold up in negotiations seems to have been over length of contract, not over $$$. It's also possible that this is stemming from Weber wanting to see what pieces the Preds can add to the team, or else to ensure that Suter and Rinne get re-upped before he chooses to commit long-term.

As mentioned earlier, arbitration was elected by the Preds in order to protect them from any offer sheets. Poile asked for a $4.75M award, not because he is a cheap, or trying to low-ball Weber, but to give the arbitrator a reasonable range to choose an award from. Poile's contract offers were, at least, in the $6.5M-$7M range.

Weber will still be an RFA after this season. The Preds cannot elect arbitration at that time, but he can.

Just for the record, if Weber is available, he will not be traded for Hickey, Loktionov and a pick (not that the Kings have the cap space anyway, but HF is already getting ridiculous with their trade proposals).

Aside, this might really suck for Drew's negotiations.

    I'm thinking, and hoping, Doughty signs for between $6.6M - $6.9M for 8 - 12 years.

...but if he gets $7M+, I'm not going to go ape****. When he's throwing up rediculous numbers and helping to bring hardware to the Kings, people will be riding his jock again.
