Wow, wonder what they threw at him to convince him not to get to 9 am tomorrow and see what else anyone had to offer. Shocked he's not on Detroit, glad he's in the east.

Reports are its 10 years / $40 million. $4 AAV is lower than I would have expected. Curious to see how front-loaded it is.

wow yeah, I want to see the details of this. This doesn't fall under the Kovalchuk clause though because he'll still only be 38 when its done.

I guess it wasn't the money/cap hit Van didn't want to pay then. It was the term (aside from Luongo Gills has generally refused long term deals.)

EDIT: I'm still always surprised when free agents this close to open market sign. He didn't want to see what a few other teams would throw at him tomorrow? Though from the same point of view I'm betting a smart GM tells Ehrhoff this deal goes off the table tomorrow at 9 AM and drops to something much lower.

wow talk about coming to the very edge of what is defined as cap circumvention.

Teams like florida will love this contract if Ehrhoff is still playing at the end. High cap hit low pay out.

Leopold and Morrisson round out that group, and with in all likelihood, Pysyk at 6, you could do a LOT worse!

No **** dude! This guy is going to make Buffalo a feared name next season.

To me, and I LOVE the Sabres, they have always been a toss in top 8 team in the east but not one you say "oh **** yea Buffalo is going to be a tough out." about.

it's always like, "oh yea AND then there is buffalo." Like some kind of afterthought. Even when they won the ****ing division a few years ago.

They already have a great forward core, and now a couple of REALLY solid defensemen, plus RM in the crease.

I know it's early, but Sabres got to be a division winning favorite if not an East favorite.
