    Default Stand out team captains over the years?

    Just curious to see what you guys have to say on this subject. Who do you think has been one of the most effective team captains in the NHL over the years. I feel like a good captain doesn''t make excuses, and they get ***** done. They don't rely on teammates, they show their teammates how to get it done, whether it is on the ice, or in the locker room, a good team captain has an undeniable presence that cannot be ignored, period.

    No question.


    All he had to do was give you a look and you knew what he wanted with out saying a word.
    He was known to take in the younger players and mentor them.
    Two more Cups than 99.

    Modano, Chara, Lidstrom, Yzerman, Sakic, Lemieux, Crosby, Brind'amour, Blake(j/k). Thes are just some more recent.

    Modano was a horrible captain.

    at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

    Toews is probably one of the top captains I can think of in the current NHL. Guy is a stud.
