The only way the Pens can have a shot is to throw away the post-lockout hockey playbook and start playing clutch and grab hockey. The Officials have basically put their whistles away and will allow everything short of an "obvious" penalty. The Pens need to hook, slash sticks out of hands, set picks, grab and hold, and slew foot as much as you can. You also may need to lay on the puck in the crease.
The Red Wings have had the last 10 years to perfect the ole clutch and grab interference game. The Pens only have 2 days...
Anybody else think that the schedule sucks....I do not agree with back to back games....

i love that abdelkader played the same role two nights in a row. and i also love seeing the pens lose. LOVE IT. although i am surprised, because i was sure they'd have won at least one by now. especially game 2. who are the old guys again?

I guess I missed it when the league announced that penalty shots would no longer be awarded for covering the puck in the crease.

You have to give credit to Zetterberg, 2 games played--2 times he covers the puck. When you see that the refs are not making calls (fear of changing the outcome of a game? Apathy? Ineptitude? Instructed by Bettman? Refs replaced by aliens?) you will do what you can to prevent goals scored against.
It still makes for a boring game.
So much for the "new" NHL....
My favorite series so far was the Rangers and Caps! That was wild, high flying hockey!

What's funny is how the refs ARE changing the outcome of the game by NOT calling it. Anyone who calls Crosby a crybaby or whiner because of this is clueless. This reeks of Carboneau covering the puck in the crease in '93.

Then of course is the constant interference throughout the game. I remember the same conversations in 2000 and 2001 when the Kings played the Wings. A veteran team with multiple cups will get the benefit of the doubt from the officials. It's BS, but that's how it is.

By the way, for anyone wondering, it's rule 63.5 in the NHL rulebook.

    No ****.

I didn't get to see much of Game 1, but last night, if you were a Wing, it was "fall down in the crease and don't get up until the whistle blows" night. It was like they had 5 goalies. No wonder Ozzie's stats are so good.

This series has been ****e so far. The back-to-back games and woeful officiating is really killing it for me. I thought both teams looked like garbage last night. Felt more like a late regular season match-up than Game ****ing 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

I'm with the guy who said NYR-Caps was the best series. That was a great series as was Chicago-Calgary. How in the world we've ended up with Pens-Wings being so lame through the first two games is amazing to me.

Yea, kind of how I missed the fact that when you get an instigator at the end of a game its an AUTOMATIC game suspension. Oh wait, it was Malkin of the NHL favorite Pens so of course they are going to overlook it.

I have to say, seeing Geno jump Zetterburg like that, instigator was the first thing that jumped into my head too.

Somebody should've given the refs a copy of the latest rulebook.
