This is pretty sad...hard to believe anyone still resorts to this kind of crap. Makes Canuck fan comments from 'what they're saying' seem pretty tame in retrospect imo...just sayin'

Chirpstory - Bruins Fans Calling Joel Ward The N-Word
There are so many Bruins fans saying the "n word" on Twitter it's ridiculous. What a bunch of racist pieces of ****.
Boston (I grew up there) is an enigma and a study in contradiction. It has that huge concentration of colleges and universities making much of the population very liberal and accepting of all differences. It also harbors many of the most vile and ugly racists in the country. The Bruins were the first NHL team to have an African American, Willie O'Ree, on the roster, and the Celtics the first to have an African American coach, Bill Russell. But the Red Sox were the very last team in professional baseball to integrate and Pumpsie Green was subjected to severe racist incidents at Fenway in the early 60s.
There were also horrible riots in Roxbury, Dorchester and South Boston when the school systems were integrated. I am glad I left there for good 37 years ago.
I don't really want to step up and defend Boston fans... they are, in my opinion, one of the unclassiest fan bases across all sports in the country.
That being said, I'd like to point out before this thread blows up as I expect it to tomorrow that a specific twitter search can't really be used as a microcosm of a fan base.
I'd be willing to bet that if a black player scored a game-winning goal in Game 7's overtime to knock out the Kings, and you searched on twitter "n-word" "kings", you'd get plenty of returns... simply by the numbers. There are racist people all over the country that use that disgusting word, especially on youtube and twitter from the safety of their homes.
Anyway, I just know for a fact in that scenario I'd be really upset to hear people call Kings fans "a bunch of disgusting racists" when I knew damn well that that wasn't really the voice of the fans. So, in turn, might as well defend the non-scumbag Bruins fans that are probably just as offended as we are.
I was going to use the pot and kettle analogy until I realised it might be racist.
Way to go boston! You're now the 2nd most hated group of idio...I mean fans. 1812 called, they want their morons back.
Well in case anyone thought that racism wasn't alive and well in our country here it is....
The wife & I were reading some of the comments as they were being posted on twitter. When Semin started tweeting about the incident, they told him to f' off & to go suck this & that. It was brutal. Very sad.
Absolutely disgusting. Not surprised though. All my black friends who had to live there for work have all but said they will never go back to that city as long as they live.
