If the Bruins come back and win the cup I fear that their fans will become A-holes like the Red sox fans did after they finallly won the WS and joined the ranks of the Celtic and Patriot fans. 75% of Canuck fans that I have met at Staples are already A-holes and I dont want them to win either. Plus Canada won the Gold at Vancouver last year beating the USA. Crap. It's a no-win deal.
After getting worked by Chicago in the playoffs 2X in a row Vancouver's GM continued to tweak the team with a single goal in mind. You won't find me cheering for the Canucks but I can't help but admire the team they've assembled: They got skill, hard work, speed, physicality, flexibility and nastiness. Can't tell you I don't have a certain degree of envy watching from afar. They did a phenomenal job.
Love Boston coming back a year later and spotting Philly the same 0-3 start and finally sweep the Flyers in the second round. Must have been great being a Boston fan to experience revenge just one year later in the form of a sweet sweep. Redemption at last! An original six against the best the West has to offer. I'm digging it!
It's easy to hate Vancouver because of the rivalry since the playoffs last year, albeit in its very early stages but a developing rivalry. Also because of their personnel. It's very convenient for me to dislike the Canucks because of their past with Bure, Linden, Momesso, Ronning and how they handled the Kings.
Can't stand the diving twins but when they cycle and connect as if a single part of an organism it is a thing to appreciate. Even Burrows as easy as it is to despise him, the way he fits on that top line, despite all the lip service the guy delivers. I appreciate clutch.
Remember when Lombardi said that "Every good army needs a couple of criminals"? Vancouver's got them in spades. Esa Tikkanen served a purpose with the Oilers. A seven game series give plenty of time to get under an opponent's skin and at this time of the year, with my team eliminated, I can appreciate that since yesterday's 8-1 beating this finals have all the workings of becoming a series. A serious series.
I just want to watch Hockey at its highest level while I can, bide my time until the draft, anticipate July 1st with cautious reserve, wait for prospect camp, laugh at LGK diatribes and melt downs before training camp arrives. It's my way to cope and survive another long Summer (the dead season).
Vancouver fans have waited a long time for this, not quite as long as we have but pretty close. Canada has waited a long time for this, Tim Thomas has waited a long time for this. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Oh, no doubt Bruins fans will be insufferable should they win it all. But they are on the east coast and in another conference. Much easier to deal with. Plus, maybe you're like me, but when someone says they are from Boston, I'm already prepared to be dealing with a Mass-hole.
