They're both 34 and will be 37 by the end of the deals.

Marleau has been in SJ since 97-98 and Thornton has been there since 05-06.

If at first (second, third, fourth, fifth....) you don't succeed....

I don't like it when rival stars give hometown discounts. So to the good deal SJ got:

Worth their asking price. But yeah, you have to wonder... if they continue to choke in the playoffs because of the same core guys.. then what? Do they just say, "Eh, we gave it a shot. We made the playoffs every year and that is all you can ask for, to have a chance at the cup."

And sure enough, Lebrun is back to stroking their chain some more:

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Crazy how the St. Louis Blues did this for 25 years! I mean...Brett Hull and Al MacInnis among other Blues long term players were fun to watch and all, but 25 years of playoff appearances with no cup and not getting past the 2nd round 23 of the 25....yeesh. Though I digress, as a Kings fan, there's plenty of woe in our history as not to cast judgement on abysmal franchise stats.
