Default Trade: Ehrhoff's Negotiating rights to Islanders for 4th round pick

Guess it wasn't a negotiating tactic, Canucks have an internal hard cap they will pay for salary and they have Ballard who can play a lot of minutes. So they dumped Ehrhoff.

Too bad, must've been just too far apart on the number (rumor is he wants 5.5+).

Ballard can play so many minutes that he was #8 on the depth chart, and might have been scratched in favor of Nolan Baumgartner. The Canucks were deep on D, but that will change this year. It will have to. If it wasn't for Edler's back surgery, the Canucks wouldn't have been able to fit them under the cap under their OLD salaries.

Canucks didn't want to pay 5.5+ for Ehrhoff, especially when Kesler is only making 5. Supposedly that money will also go to a 2nd line winger for Kesler to play with, but I'm not sure who that will be.

as for dgrycan's comments yeah they got lucky with the D last year they will not have a defensive corp that deep again. As for Ballard being scratched I think we'll see a different Keith Ballard this year.

Interesting, none the less. I'm personally disappointed to see Ehrhoff go. (that may be an understatement haha)

Was a sure thing that either Bieksa or Ehrhoff was packing their bags...the Islanders though??? Do they really think they can convince him to go cross country to a team that may or may not be playing in the same place for long? Brave. If the Isles ever gel they are going to be ridiculous. They already give folks(my Devils included) fits. But, when you get top 5 draft picks year after year even the most inept team is going to get it right by accident. I think they made Doug Weight an assistant too. Good move if so.

you're mistaken, Ballard was scratched because he sucks... Vancouver kept losing defensemen and they still didn't want to dress him.

he has simply never shed loose the undisciplined play that was all over him in his early days in Phoenix.

**** Ballard. As I will never forgive Higgins for that **** play on Doughty in Montreal, I'll never forgive Ballard for concussing Demitra, which pretty much ended that season.

I see Ehrhoff in Detroit, taking Rafalski's spot and salary.
