So one of the most fun things to me, is tracing some trade lineage on deals that at the time seemed one sided, or people were trading the now for the future and see how they turned out. Asking yourself at the end of it all...who came out ahead? as it stands, right now, and if you had the foresight would you have done it then. Some examples of it would be...
C Joe Thornton
for (when all is said and done now..this is who they have from those players)
D Dennis Seidenberg
D Andrew Ference
D Matt Bartkowski
2 mid to low level prospects
Who won the deal?
or
LW Pavol Demitra (he walked from Minny so technically they got nothing)
for (eventual)
C Trevor Lewis
RW Justin Williams
How does that deal look?
There are TONS of trades to trace throughout history...damn famous ones to debate and talk about. Just a fun threadto get away from the bullcrap of summer I think
Here is another fun one centered around two teams... Islanders and the Panthers...the infamous Luongo trade by Milbury.
All is said and done...and WOW was this one extensive as ****...and A LOT of good players passed through both organizations..especially Florida...
NYI intially traded Luongo and Jokinen to Florida for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha.
Florida ended up, in the end having these players from the trade:
F Steve Bernier
F Quinton Howden
F Shawn Matthias
F Sergei Samsonov
NYI ended up with
F Kiril Petrov
D Travis Hamonic
ya know......it's pretty even haha. That's tough. Petrov is supposed to be good...Hamonic is going to be a fine NHL defensmen. Samsonov is on the end of his career...Matthias has been up and down between NHL and AHL..Howden is going to be fantastic and Bernier is as inconsistent as they come.
What do you guys think? Present your own as well! Be sure to trace hard though..some of these..when it gets down to the nit and grit and swapping picks and stuff....gets crazy.
