I think Gillis being fired only makes sense if they plan to blow up the whole team and go the full blown rebuild mode.

They won't do that, they like it when the butts are in the seats at Rogers, and there haven't been as many butts in seats lately.

My guess is they go flashy and big name and try and hover around in the Black Hole for a while.

    Regardless, this is a mess:

    Vancouver Canucks Salary Cap Chart

Its gonna take someone some number of seasons to sweep out that barn.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

That would nuke them and ensure that they won't make the playoffs for the next 5 years while all those contracts run out, and they MIGHT have picked a few gems.

Feaster and Torts trying to bring back the glory days of the run and gun would basically ruin them. Their team would wind up being smaller and less punishing than what they have now, and the problem the Canucks have is that they are soft and aren't capable of competing in the Pacific with the likes of the Kings/Sharks/Ducks punishing style. Gillis disliked the shift in the game, but the fact is that Big Strapping Bodies pounding people into the boards while their skilled back end passers get them out of their end is what is going to win in the NHL now and for the foreseeable future.

So...that means Torts is absolved and basically gets his way. Well good for him I guess. Wish they had kept Schneider(can't understand why a guy with the numbers he has is soooooo unlucky. Oh yeah I can, when he gets the head of the table chair he chokes. Never seen a guy give up so many DEFLATING goals when his avg per game is probably under 1). But that me griping. If the Islanders are indeed interested in the Sedins, that's a lotta cheese off the books. And they are in the 'diminished returns' phase of their career(why pluralize...they are one, they are legion). Yeah...only upside is when they get good enough, Torts will be gone. Rat.

    Where would the Sedins go?

I can't imagine where and what for.
    Split 'em up?

It's looking more and more like Burke's now...15 year-old experiment has failed.

So from what's being reported by Farhan, Linden is being announced as President tomorrow, and both Torts and Gillis contracts have buyout provisions whereby the team pays half the remainder to dismiss them.

Torts likely survives long enough for Trevor to talk to players at exit interviews, and then gets a $4M bonus to coach somewhere else, or move to the booth until someone else is stupid enough to hire him.

If this is how it all plays out, and they get a young first time GM like Futa, then they could reboot it quickly.

I think they need to blow it up myself.

So many Canucks fans included Schneider on the list of elite goalies when the guy never had number 1 duties. Judging by your comments, he apparently now has number 1 dooties. I'll be here all week.
