It was an egregious, inexcusable act. I'd say at least 10 games. I'm sure we all lament that spinelessness of the League in regards to suspensions, but this could and should be the turning point. Let's hope the League takes it as seriously as the fans do.

    Craig MacT on TSN:

He's been verbally abused in that area (Minnesota), because of that gap in that arena more than any other arena in the NHL.

Pierre McGuire: stated he's heard complaints about that gap around the league as well.

Poor baby has been verbally abused. Like I said before, if he's that thin skinned he needs to wear ear plugs or just get out of professional sports altogether. There is no excuse for what he did. I'm annoyed by all the excuses folks are offering up for his actions. Ridiculous.

His point - and I agree with him - is that Minnesota has been aware of their lack of security in the tunnel area for quite some time. Should have been fixed long ago.

This does not in anyway excuse what Rypien did - but the Wild may have been able to avoid, or minimize this, by addressing the security issue when it was originally brought to their attention.

That is why the arena is going to get sued too

Yea, and if the guard rail had been there he wouldn't have driven off the cliff - even though he was drunk driving. We hear this all the time these days. Come on, it's an excuse, and a lame one at that. The "lack of security" did not cause Rypien to lose his mind and go after a fan who, from almost all accounts simply clapped and said "way to be a professional". The "lack of security" hasn't led to any other negative issues in that arena that have been brought to the public's attention (as far as I am aware). That makes it just another lame excuse for his actions. I think it's a reach to say that the "lack of security" there had ANYTHING to do with Rypien's reaction. Might as well blame his sucker punch to Staubitz on the "lack of security" as well. Not trying to argue with you, just trying to be very clear that any excuse that folks are throwing out there is just pfffft.

I agree with you. Excuses for Rick-Rollin's behavior are indeed - pffftttt!!!

Rypien was/is an idiot and will be suspended accordingly. There is NO EXCUSE for what he did. NONE! The fan is off limits and there was no reason he should have been accosted by R.R.

On a side note - Minnesota should (have) address(ed) the failings that are evident in their arena. They failed to do so previously and are now likely as well to face a lawsuit from Mr. Engquist. This could have, and should have, been easily avoidable if the proper 'parameters' where in place.

Again - Rypien guilty./ Wild arena security lacking. (does not mitigate R.R's actions)

    It needs to be fixed.

I actually don't have a problem w/ the Rypien suckerpunch on Staubitz if, reports are true, Staubitz did indeed actually eye gouge him - he had it coming.
