If that's true I agree that he should have been allowed 3 free sucker punches!

You completely missed the point. Did you not read the part where he said that there is no excus for the actions of Rypien? The point is that it could have been prevented if The Wild had just addressed the security concerns that have apparently been brought up before. It's a legal thing if nothing else.
No one is saying Rypien wasn't a total idiot for doing what he did. He bears all the responsibility for his actions and he will obviously pay the price with a hefty fine and suspension. But that doesn't change the fact that it is ALSO the organization's responsibility to ensure that when players or fans DO act like idiots that there are proper security measures in place to prevent those brief moments of stupidity from turning into something far worse.
This argument has nothing to do with whether or not Rypien is responsible for his own actions. It has to with the fact that things like this unfortunately do happen every once in a while and it can be prevented.
Sick of everything in society being dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. Added security? Does there really need to be armed guards all the way around the tunnels? Bulletproof glass? Do we all need to be strapped down to our seats while the game is in play?
This. How about this as well - maybe Rypien should have had his head examined before the season b/c I'm sure they'd have found that he's got a screw loose. That way the NHL could have kept him from playing thus preventing the incident. I've got all kinds of ideas on how we can make sure bad sh** doesn't happen.
I just want to know what happened to personal responsibility.
Security should be in place to make sure the players are protected from DANGEROUS people. If a player who's in a ****ty mood can't make it the 10' past clapping fans without flipping the **** out then maybe the problem is with the player and not security.
5 games? 6 games? 8 games?
Personally I think Rypien should be gone for at half the season at least. 41 games minimum. You can't have players reaching over the rail and choking fans. What happens if he flips that kid over the rail and breaks his neck? Wasn't far off from it.
Sorry, but this needs to be a zero tolerance situation.
What if he jumped into the stands, grabbed a chair, and smashed it over the guy's head? I'm afraid to even step foot inside of an arena now, he was millimeters away from doing just that...
