James Engquist: "I was assaulted, that?s just the bottom line" | StarTribune.com

    ...

Engquist attended the Wild-Vancouver game with his brother, Peter, getting seats directly behind the visitors' bench as a gift from their father: "I was just standing straight up applauding as he was getting kicked out. He was out of control. And then I said, 'Way to be professional,' and he obviously didn’t care for that comment and decided to grab me and almost dragged me over the rail. If my brother wasn’t grabbing me and the other player wasn't grabbing him, he probably would have dragged me over the edge."

Engquist did not hear from the NHL brass as of 4:30 p.m. CT, however he called the Xcel Energy Center operations department and they put him in touch with NHL Security. He gave a statement a little bit ago.

"This is a crazy incident. I’ve seen a lot of hockey in my day, and I’ve never seen someone actually come into the stands and assault a fan," said Engquist.

Engquist said he is "definitely seeking legal representation. ... I was assaulted, that's just the bottom line."

Engquist said he didn't receive an apology from the league, Rypien or the Canucks. He said he hasn't heard anything from the Wild.

The name of the game in a lawsuit is to name as many parties are possible and get in as many pockets as you can.

Safe to assume the following will be named

    Rypien
    Vignault
    The Canucks
    The NHL
    The Arena
    The nearest security guard
The security company if it is a subcontractor.

As a Wild fan , i am not sure if he would name the team. His lawyer would probably talk him in to it though.

True. I had an instructor once that worked with lawyers for recreating accident scenes in automobile accidents. He literally told us that in accidents and situations like this: "if it has a logo, sue it." I don't necessarily condone this but it does make sense because you're not going to get something from all of them. I also think this fan deserves something, but not everything.

The Wild need to give him season tickets and call it a day.

Didn't something happen at the end of a regular season game between the Sharks and Kings at the Forum where a fan filed a lawsuit because one of the Sharks shot a puck into the stands dilibratley and it hit them? I remember hearing something about that and the article said that every person and team involved (including the Kings) had to be named in the lawsuit. I'll research it and see if I can find it.
