TSN just spoke about a Vancouver newspaper editorial where they suggest Luongo for Lecavilier. See. Make no mistake, Vancouver would do anything to opt out of that contract. They were not expecting a goalie of Schneider's caliber(and the guy IS a starter). Canadian press and public sentiment could make this happen. Just saying.
The question isn't whether Vancouver would like to unload Luongo, the question is who can they con into taking him? The only way I see it happening is a situation like Florida this past off season where they need to spend money to reach the floor. The crazy GM's usually line up for the FA's, not the franchise goalie that needs new scenery, a career refresher, and a already has a big, long contract.

His contract is only onerous in length. Not cap hit.
Luongo had as much to do with Vancouver losing as he did with them winning. He's reminding me more and more of Osgood or perhaps even Cujo. A good goalie, spectacular at times, but never really able to fully transcend into "elite" money goalie.

For as many times he locked the door and shut out his opponents there were other times his soft goals, bad rebounds, propensity to end up swimming on his belly, lack of focus, demeanor, etc. cost Vancouver. The tire pumping controversy, while blown out of proportion, added unneeded criticism and attention to him and the Canucks. He wasn't the sole reason they lost, but he was a factor.Quote:

I wonder if he needs to play in a non-Canadian city, or at least one without all the attention on the team. The whole captaincy controversy showed he lacks the ice-in-veins attitude to deal with the pressure of a hockey-mad city.
