So glad to see the Jets back home. **** all the haters!
So glad to see the Jets back home. **** all the haters!
Yeah, I stand by "lame."
The original Winnipeg Jets failed.
The majority has obviously won out in this case, as True North didn't seem to want to go back to Jets, but have obviously been pressured into it by the sentimentality of the people.
So what happens now to the Winnipeg Jets retired numbers that are displayed inside Jobing.Com Arena?
The Jets should have stayed in the past.
I like The Jets name.
Although, Bogey's other suggestion could have also worked: The Winnipeg Gay.![]()

The team failed, not the team name.
Who gonna be buying the jerseys and other team merchandise?
True North?
Maintain those retired numbers.
Allow the fans to honor their stars of the past.
Should AEG have taken down the jerseys when they bought the team?
Just think of the Jets as having new owners.
And for my best and conclusive argument, I leave you with a hearty "Nu uhhhhh!"
Semantics. The Winnipeg Jets failed. I just saw it as a good opportunity to start fresh. Just my opinion.
Oh please. You're talking about the city that sold all those season tickets in about four and a half seconds. You really think that the people would have not gone out and bought a jersey if they had another name, like Falcons or whatever? They could have called them the Manitoba Asshats and the same people would have rushed out to buy that jersey.Who gonna be buying the jerseys and other team merchandise?
What do you mean maintain? The franchise has come from Atlanta. If they are maintaining retired numbers, then isn't that the single Thrashers retired number they would be "maintaining"? Or do they ignore the fact that the franchise has come from Atlanta? Or now that they have been named the Jets again, are the Coyotes expected to remove the Winnipeg Jets retired numbers from Jobing.Com Arena and hand them back? Are they going to display them in both? Or maybe the Thrashers could offer the Coyotes the Thrashers single retired number and a 5th round pick for their teams history back?!?Maintain those retired numbers.
Allow the fans to honor their stars of the past.
I fail to see how this has any relevance? When AEG bought the Kings, were our retired jerseys hanging in another teams arena somewhere?Should AEG have taken down the jerseys when they bought the team?
Not sure it's that simple.Just think of the Jets as having new owners.
You are right about one thing, that is probably your best argument. And for my best and conclusive argument, I leave you with a hearty "Nu uhhhhh!"
Look, I get it. You old timers () love the warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling you get when you see a team from last century come back and it makes you remember those glorious days of years gone by... but as a spring chicken, I just don't feel that way.
But goodie for all the folks who are thrilled by the return of the long lost Jets!
Lame.![]()
No, I don't think they would have bought as much crap if it were another name. If I was a fan from Winnipeg, I would have thought, these effing owners don't listen to what the fans want. There would be some resentment from the get-go. What kind of start is that?
The people in Phoenix look to the rafters and think, who the eff is Thomas Steen? He never played here. Dale Hawerchuk? Oh yeah, that dude who stood here and had his number retired in 2007. They showed some highlights of him. He never played here either.
There's no connection between the player and the fans if they never played there.
When a team moves to a city that never had a team before, that's when the team should get a fresh start.
It was a hypothetical question in response to your questioning the displaying of retired jerseys.
Actually, I glossed over the fact that you questioned the displaying of the retired jersey's at Jobing.com arena.
If Teppo Numinmen didn't play for a significant time in Winnipeg, I'd say no, his number shouldn't be on display for the new team. But he played 8 solid seasons in Winnipeg, so his jersey belongs.
Sure it is.
Lame it all you want, I win!!!
Err, I'll probably wind up hating that team just like I do every other team not named the Kings.
My opinion is that you are reading far too much into that, and that the Winnipeg fans probably aren't so fickle as to resent the owners who brough them their NHL team back over the name.
I never said that the people in Phoenix care, but the fact of the matter is that the Winnipeg Jets are a part of that franchises history. In one way you are saying that the history must be brought forward, and then in another you are saying that Phoenix has no reason to have the Winnipeg names up there. I take it they were just keeping them warm for Winnipeg until they got the team back? The people in Phoenix look to the rafters and think, who the eff is Thomas Steen? He never played here. Dale Hawerchuk? Oh yeah, that dude who stood here and had his number retired in 2007. They showed some highlights of him. He never played here either.
There's no connection between the player and the fans if they never played there.
Sure. But I think this case is particularly unique. When a team moves to a city that never had a team before, that's when the team should get a fresh start.
You glossed over quite a bit. I'm not necessarily saying how things will or should be, I'm just curious as to how it's going to work out.Actually, I glossed over...
I believe Bobby Hull and Thomas Steen are the only two that the were retired by the Jets, anyone else came subsequently by Phoenix, right? So being that they never played in Phoenix, do you think that Phoenix, who have had those numbers retired and displayed inside the arena since the team arrived, should now remove them, and unretire the numbers? So basically, all of Winnipegs history is handed back to them by Phoenix?
These are questions that have no answers yet, but I am curious how you think they should handle the situation.
You aren't going to change your opinion, and I'm not gonna change mine, but you can win all you like, I'm really not that fussed.Lame it all you want, I win!!!
It's still lame.
