I think Manitoba Jets would have satisfied both keeping the Jets name and differentiating them from the old Jets team...but that's just me.

Seems to me nobody really cares about differentiating them from the old Jets team.
Except a few cranks on the interwebs....
Yes, NOW the fans have huge hard-ons just to have a team again, but in a few years, after the honeymoon is over, then what?
Team/fan relations are always important, especially for teams who aren't consistent winners.
Hey, that's a good way of looking at it.
They were just keeping them warm until Winnipeg got a team back.
Agreed!
Except for Teppo Numminen (they can share), yeah, give those retired numbers back to Winnipeg.

So when the Coyotes move to Quebec and become the Nordiques, do they get to retire Joe Sakic's number but then leave out Roy cuz he never played in that city? If the Kings moved to KC tomorrow and then 10 years from now the Devils moved the LA, should the Devils franchise retire number 20? All of this seems stupid and just doesn't fit.
And what if Winnipeg named their team something else? Then they couldn't retire Numminen's number? It's just a stupid name. The history isn't with that franchise.
The argument that Coyotes fans wouldn't notice the difference is lame, people. Stop using it.
Robbing a 7-11 because the clerk didn't notice doesn't make the act itself right.
So, make the call...
Will Evander Kane get to keep number 9 this season?
Or now that he is playing for the Jets, will he have to find a new number?
I thought this was "simple" ?
