    OMG!!!!
    What are they gonna do?!!

When I think of #9, I think of Evander Kane, and vice-versa.
    It's a league-wide, hell, a world-wide phenomenon.

I don't think it really matters one bit what you think about when you think of the #9. It's an obvious observation, and a relevant question to pose.

If you wanna act stupidly sarcastic about it and contribute nothing to any kinda discussion, that's cool, but just because you or I aren't affected by (or even care about) the situation, doesn't mean others aren't.

Your point has been made. You don't care. Let's leave it there.

Any one else wanna take a shot at a more serious answer/discussion?

F - the new name, now I want to see the new logo and jersey.

BTW - I used to think similar esp about the football Browns. But I've changed my take based on many cities that keep a team name in hockey. Think Aeros, Gulls, etc...

Did I miss the part where someone implied that it would?

I can't imagine why else anybody would care if the Winnipeg Jets retire a number from the old franchise and let the players in the new franchise continue to wear that number.

Teams in the NHL have "honored" numbers where the number isn't retired but it's still hanging on the wall.

Nobody is going to ever confuse the old Jets with the new Jets and if they did it would take all of 30 seconds to explain the issue to them yet the "Jets play in Phoenix" crowd is acting like it's an insurmountable cluster**** of logistics and record keeping.

Interesting point. So you are saying they should "retire" the number, hang it from the rafters, but still let players wear it? I guess the number isn't really "retired" then is it? Hmm.

Maybe just let the players who currently wear the retired numbers continue to wear them, but when they no longer wear that number, don't hand it out to any one new. Would probably be a good solution.

yet the "Jets play in Phoenix" crowd is acting like it's an insurmountable cluster**** of logistics and record keeping.
I'm not saying it's an "insurmountable cluster****" but there is certainly stuff to be worked through, and I am interested to see how it plays out. Obviously I am not the only one wondering, as I see some quotes from the owners saying that this is an issue they are trying to work through.

It's all part of my "I think it would have just been easier to give them a new name and start fresh" mentality.

But apparently I am not able to voice my opinion without it being mocked without ever actually being addressed.

    Thanks for the thoughts Doc.

"honor" it, "retire" it... whatever. The point is EVERYBODY understands that THIS Jets isn't the same team as "THOSE" Jets. You can still recognize and honor the past accomplishments that meant something to that community without pretending that there is any direct link.

For example... the Stanley Cup banners in Ottawa. Nobody thinks the current team won them... but there WAS a hockey team in Ottawa called the Senators and the did win Stanley Cups. Where's the harm in recognizing it?

    Two fine points sir.

Sadly, I fear that the common sense within may be too much for the people charged with actually making these decisions.
