Thread: Winnipeg team to reveal name at draft

Just to toss an opposing log into the fire.......

Whenever I go to STAPLES and I see all the Minneapolis Lakers stuff hanging on the wall I always think it's total bull****.

I feel like claiming the accomplishments of a team from when it operated in a different city is the height of "front runnerism" and being a "poseur".

The question I've been asking people is this...

IF the Kings actually did move to a different city (let's say... Portland) one day... and then years later you were visiting that city.... and you saw some Portland Kings fan walking around with a Gretzky jersey on talking about the rich history of his team.... wouldn't you want to punch him in the back of the head???

I agree with anything relating to the accomplishments of a team... but I think there is a little difference between the success of a team, and the contributions of an individual. I think there is possibly a difference between hanging Cup Banners, and a retired jersey in a new arena.

I think you hit the nail on the head with not necessarily "retiring" jersey numbers, but honouring them in some capacity.
