Well said, D.C.! I would love to sit and have a beer with you and discuss the passion we have for our favorite sport, as I'm sure many of my fellow Kings brothers & sisters would as well.

Like you said, most of the old school Canucks fans are deeply rooted in knowledge and humbleness about their team, and are generally people that we, as Kings fans, would have no problem associating with. It is however, the ones that have grown up on "successful" Canuck hockey that has made the Vancouver fanbase (and the team, to an extent), look like holier-than-thou *******s who feel their team can do no wrong. And now the city of Vancouver is confirming that, by saying it's the league's fault that the city was nearly destroyed.

Here on L.G.K., we encourage fans of other teams to come in, sit a spell, and talk hockey with us. Win or lose, we can all enjoy a good natured ribbing, as long as it's not mean-spirited. We hope you, and some of your knowledgable Canuck buddies, can continue to enjoy coming to visit here for a long time.

Now, where's the waitress? I'm thirsty....

A Devils' fan's take on the Stanley Cup Finals against the Kings:

"You guys are retarded. There are 28 teams that would KILL to be getting their ass kicked by LA in the finals. Show some god damn humility and stop being sore losers."

Well composed, DC. You gotta remember, what most of us react to are what we read on forums and online comments. It only takes a cursory look at most comments on youtube, yahoo, or wherever to see that there is so much trash that gets posted in these venues. I now refuse to read and post in any yahoo comment or articles because there are way too many trolls and morons. Lets also not forget that the idiots of society also tend to be the loudest.

Mob mentality, fairweather fans, internet tough guys...all of that plays a part. There have been other things that haven't exactly engendered the Nucks to the hockey world. The parade route planning (not sure if this actually happened or was just a fallacy), the histrionics of Luongo, the questionable hits from Torres, the diving from the Sedins, the finger biting...all of these things play a part in creating the Nucks reputation. The team made it quite easy to root for the Bruins, and that's no small feat considering New England sports fans aren't passive, even keeled fans themselves.

But we are experiencing the Nucks fanbase at a distance. We aren't there to see the majority. We weren't there to experience the history. Our perception of you guys is just as flawed as the average Nucks fan is of the average Kings fan. Should the Kings experience an uptick in playoff performance, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see many more jerkoff Kings fans, trolling forums, boards, etc. It's an unfortunate side effect of success.

I don't know where I'm going with this anymore. If your post was rambling then I'm sure this post is speaking in tongues. At any rate, whenever you find yourself in L.A. I'd like to meet and share a few rounds of drinks and talk hockey.

First of all DC, I've always liked you (not that you'd know me, I'm mostly a lurker) and when I'm thinking of stereotypical Nucks fans, I often think of you as an antithesis. The fact of the matter is, I think MOST fans of ALL teams are probably pretty decent people. But let's say the average level of fan douchiness for a team is 3%, and your team is 5% (not saying it is, just a thought experiment). That 2% difference is going to head off to the ol' internet to let you know how important their ideas are and the negative always sticks in our minds more. It's selective memory and we're all susceptible to it.

At the end of the day, it's a f***ing sport, and anyone who has legitimate dislike for a person simply because of a team affiliation is probably an idiot. I love hockey and I love the Northwest, so that means I probably would like most Canucks fans. I still might talk a little trash if we ever get a beer, though.

DC, we don't lump you in with that other group, you know that.

And when you finally find you way down here for a holiday, and a game or 3, there will be quite a few of us ready to welcome you with open arms.

at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

Last Saturday I went to a night club. A big fight broke out while the DJ was playing a song by Depeche Mode. During the fight someone threw a bottle and it cut my shoulder. I think I'm going to sue Depeche Mode.
