Once again, Bettman and his evil cronies were thisclose to destroying a Canadian city out of spit.
Thank goodness the quick-witted Vancouver fans spotted this as easily as they spot the NHL front office bias against their team in general!

Their police chief fubared this like they did in 1994. What other major city would close blocks of public streets for a viewing party during the middle of the week? How about NONE. Nucks better get used to some serious heel style booing and chants from opposing fans this season.

You know, I used to be a big Canucks fan. Loved guys like Tiger Williams, Kirk McLean, Trevor Linden & Pavel Bure. Great team and great fans. But, over the last several years, the team has employed a few ass-clowns to play for them, and some of the fans have become uppity snobs expecting everything to go their way. (No offense, DC!) Now, the city one-ups it all by blaming the league. Stupid!

It is not, and should not be, the job of any league to provide crowd control, and other measures, to any city who wishes to throw sports parties in the middle of their own streets. That is solely the job of that city, it's government, and it's police force, to provide a safe environment for fans & visitors attending the party.

If I was Bettman, I'd ask the Vancouver chumps how they'd feel if he just decided to suspend the Canucks team from playing in the upcoming season? "Keep blaming us without reason, and your team is prevented from playing for one year. See how your fans and businesses will react to no hockey for them this season?" Obviously, it would never happen. But, could you imagine what would happen? Probably make the Finals riot look tame in comparison.
A Devils' fan's take on the Stanley Cup Finals against the Kings:

"You guys are retarded. There are 28 teams that would KILL to be getting their ass kicked by LA in the finals. Show some god damn humility and stop being sore losers."

I will play a small amount of devils advocate and say that the quote
"[This] clearly … threatens the value and perception of their brand."
Is absolutely true. The NHL does have a brand and it's clients are not only its customers on one level, but it's other more potentially more lucrative clients (TV and advertising) are seriously put off by being associated with this kind of activity. So from a legal perspective no I don't think the NHL gives a ****, from a PR standpoint I think they do. If Bettman's smart he'll agree to take the PR risk for some of the concession rights at these outdoor events. Possibly even the riot risk if the city is willing to pony up.

Lots of LoL's in that article, but this is my favorite:

Vancouver's own police chief says the riots were the work of "a number of young men and women, disguised as Canucks fans, who were actually criminals and anarchists."

    Ridiculous on so many levels.

No. Just no. You can't expect the NHL to take on a role of coddling these ****ing cities because they have bad responses to this ****.

And like the article points out...the last 4 riots have been in Canadian cities..after they have lost. It's not like you couldn't see it coming. Meanwhile, Colorado, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh...they all had cup wins that DIDN'T involve a massive riot....more importantly...Pittsburgh, Detroit, Colorado, Calgary...they all had cup LOSSES that didn't involve a massive riot afterwards. This responsibility lies solely on the personal responsibility of the fan, and the event planners of the arena. NOT the NHL.

It's the equivalent of blaming the government for everything. They don't want to take on responsibility, they'd rather pass the buck and act like their is nothing wrong with their city/organization. Just like their players, GM and fans. No one should make excuses for them.

And I also love how the story has changed...oh it was anarchists from outside the city that disguised themselves as Canucks fans...oh it was a few drunken belligerent Canucks fans who cause ALL the problems....oh it was cause the NHL didn't help us.

No bitches, it's because you didn't take the necessary precautions, IE; better security, better crowd control, better preparation in general for this event.

AGAIN, look at what the Lakers did after the riots the first time. They stepped up security, crowd control, and preparedness and it was WAY WAY WAY better.

Vancouver has no one to blame but themselves. Keep crying about it. Keep crying about bad calls, bad reffing, our series against them last year, the Conference finals against Chicago last year, and the Finals this year. Keep making excuses. Seriously. They are a joke.
