First, a thank you for finally approving me. Started to feel a little creepy lurking.
I became a hockey fan when I was 5 and my parents left me for 2 weeks to go to Lake Placid for the Olympics. They had never left me before so I had to find out what this "Olympics" thing was. I not only became obsessed with the Olympics, but these men, mere mortals, took down the evil Communists using this sport called "hockey" and I was in awe. Wasn't a lot of hockey where & when I grew up (Bay Area, 80's) so it was only an every 4 years obsession at first.
Then, 8/9/88 it was announced that Wayne Gretzky was going to become a Los Angeles King and that was it. When word got out that San Jose was getting a team, I ddin't budge. At that age San Jose was about as far as Los Angeles and I wasn't going to support a team that wore teal anyway. Pretty smart for a 13 year old.
Once I moved to LA, I was broke so only bought tickets here and there and an occasional Holiday Pack. Then I got an email saying we'd signed Mike Richards. I immediately called my rep and upgraded to a Half Season. I saw a Cup in our future, our very near future, and I had to be a part. Pretty smart for a 30-something year old.
Favorite memory from last season (besides winning the Cup): Driving out to Phoenix, GO KINGS GO on the back window, and all the honking and waving from fellow Kings fans on their way out as well.
Favorite memory from this season: Watching games on my iPad while working in Panama in February. I watched games in some weird, hot, jungley, places.
