I'm an LA native...well... started watching the Kings a little before Gretz came - I had a friend (who I had a crush on) who was a big hockey fan because her dad was hardcore into the Kings. Favorite player during that era was Dave Taylor. As a kid I didn't know much about the game other than the fact that Taylor hit people hard... and that was fun to watch.
Anyway, now with kids of my own it was important to keep the loyalty alive (as with the Lakers and Dodgers). We bought them their Kings shirts and all. Then a couple of years ago, we went around looking for newspapers to cut out Kings articles and decorated our family room during their run to the Cup. I think that process (and winning the cup) had our two older kids (4 and 6 at the time) hooked for life. (The little one was too little to care... and still is).
Now, we are in Beijing because of work. They show some of the NHL games, but very few are live broadcasts, and never a Kings game. So, I paid for Gamecenter to watch games... Behind the Great Firewall... sometimes the connection is bad, so I've had to subscribe to a VPN... which even still gets throttled (especially recently around the anniversary of an event that happened here 25 years ago that no one talks about).
Anyway, so for the most part, I can watch online and sometimes the kids crowd around me with my laptop, or jump on me to see the screen when I yell to see what I'm yelling about.
Anyway, that's about me. Been reading LGK for quite a few years now... but only now felt like I "needed" to start posting. Thanks for being a great place for news, talk, and everything else.
Cheers from across the big pond.
