This may sound wishywashy and undiehard to some of the diehard Kings fans on here, but I will give it a go anyway.
I have been a casual hockey fan. I first started liking the Kings when I moved to California in 1989 and watched them on Prime Ticket. I remember the Great One of course, Kelly Hrudey, and Luc Robitaille. I didn't go to my first Kings game until November 2003 when the Kings were playing the St Louis Blues and lost 1-0.(I had no reliable transportation when I first moved to CA, and I then lived in Japan from 1994-1999) I remember it was 80s Day and featured the likes of Rogie Vachon and Marcel Dionne Other personal things came up during that time and took my mind off hockey (the lockout didn't help either)
What got me interested again this year? Primarily the Mountain Dew promo for a $20 seat in the 300 section and the free hat This may seem ho-hum to some people, but the game on February 23 really excited me. It sucked to see the Kings lose after clawing back and forcing OT, but I liked the effort I really enjoyed the antics of the fans in my section and the drummers (my co-worker said that Ducks fans aren't as entertaining as Kings fans). I enjoyed listening to Marcel Dionne on Kings Talk on the drive back to southwestern Riverside County.
It's too bad that the Kings don't appear on local non-cable TV channels (even the Clippers have KTLA). Radio reception for Kings games also sucks where I live (my computer wouldn't be any good for listening to them either)
Nevertheless, I sit in my work place wearing my Kings hoodie and Kings T-shirt underneath it.
Even though I have been a casual hockey fan from time to time, I am doing what I can to learn more about the game and become a diehard ASAP
