I really couldn't decide on a title, so I went for attention grabbing...... How I became a fan...... Well 11 or 12 years ago my wife and I decided on a whim to head to Vegas to check out the Kings/Avs game. We saw an advertisement locally, btw we're from Northern Colorado, and thought this would be fun. So we came out to the game and had a blast.
Kings fans were different, some good, some bad, but I grew up in Dallas so I was used to the Avs fans being obnoxious when I'd take in a game so I just ignore them. In 2003, after my now wife and I had rejected all thoughts of getting married in this place or that place, I came up with the Idea of getting married in Vegas, on the Ice before a game......Now the real fun began...Contacted the Avs, no help, they weren't the home team...Shucks....contacted the MGM and a very nice woman name Tina LaVoie, was ready to help us, but there was a catch.....*cue the dun dun dun music.....The ice was the Kings and they'd have to approve.....So I put in a call to the Kings organization....mind you I was doing all of this 2 weeks before the game.....and Lo an Behold a human response. A young woman named Amanda, worked it out so we could get married on the ice at the MGM Grand on September 27, 2003. With all the approvals in place all we needed was our wedding clothes... A quick trip to a local retailer and an online purchase and My Wife's Rob Blake Avs Jersey and My Adam Deadmarsh Kings Jersery were safely in our hands and ready for the wedding. After our arrival in Vegas we decided to head down to the Chapel and over to the arena to check it out. As we're standing in the lobby, a bus pulls up and out comes the LA Kings team. They pass by us and we get a couple of Autographs, but having not followed the Kings, I didn't recognize many faces. Later in the day I'm walking through the main elevator area and see a face I did recognize, Adam Deadmarsh. Having no shame I approached him and invited him and his teammates to our wedding the next day. I told him I was wearing his Jersey which he thought was cool and I asked if he'd wait while I went up to my room and got it, which he did, and then signed it for me.
The day of the wedding we arrive at the wedding chapel at 3pm. We meet the Tina and the gentleman who will perform the ceremony. He goes over the basics, if a ring falls let him get it so no one ends up with a broken nose, ya know the usual. at 345 we head out to the arena escorted by Amanda (Kings), Tina (MGM) and some security. they take us to the Zamboni entrance and roll out a carpet. One of the guys putting the advertisements on the boards and nets brings a net over to put behind us on the ice and clears his guys out for the ceremony. The Kings Organist happened to be there and played for us while we walked down the aisle. It was a quick ceremony, but very fitting for us. Everyone wore Hockey Jerseys! Oh and if you can believe, Tina told us we were the 1st wedding ever done on the ice at the MGM....A 1st in Vegas how cool for us...... Every year since My wife and I and some of our friends make the trip out for the Frozen Fury and to celebrate our Anniversary.... This year marks 10 amazing years....... Go Kings and Go Avs.... Had to do an edit since I didn't actually introduce myself, My names Jeremy and my wife is Sara
