Hello Everybody,
I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself to the community.
My name is Jim and I've been a Kings fan since the early 1980s when my mom's co-worker Greg introduced me to both the LA Kings and ice hockey. He used to test me by saying the name of a city and I would respond by answering the name of the team. Pretty cool now that I think of it cause it was a good way to learn geography (yeah, I'm a bit of a nerd and I was like around 10 years-old!).
Buffalo...Sabres.
Winnipeg...Jets.
Yeah!!!
I'm not so sure I would know much about Canada and the East Coast today if it wasn't for "learning" about hockey back in the day.
My favorite player is and was Bernie Nicholls (I guess due to the timing of my "Kings awakening" and the PumperNicholl), but I also liked Marcel Dionne, Terry Ruskowski, and Brian MacLellan. Can't forget Tiger Williams as well!
I miss the days of catching games with my brother during school nights at the Forum ($5.00 student tickets in the Colonnade, of course) and even Lazer games. Anyone remember Batata???
As for the current team, I like Mike Cammalleri because he's putting up points as a top-six forward, and there were questions and doubts about his size and durability in the NHL (and rightfully so after his concussion). I guess I like rooting for the "underdog." But like everyone else here, I'm waiting for the arrival of JMFJ whenever HE decides to go pro!!!
Nowadays, I just watch the games on TV when I can, and read about Kings "info" online. That's how I found this site a few years back.
I like reading about the draft and about "prospects." I'm glad that the team has invested heavily in scouting and in their own minor league affiliates and no longer has to "share" them. I also like the fact that the team no longer gives away its first round picks on fading, has-been players on the downside of their career!
With the shake up in the scouting department, it will be interesting to see if the team goes defenseman or scorer with its first pick (I'm hoping "scorer").
So I've rambled enough!!! Offline, I'm much more quiet and shy. This is my first ever post/joining of an online community/bulletin board. I guess my days of "lurking" are over!
Best wishes to all!
GO KINGS GO!!!
