My First Hockey Game I never Saw.
It was the winter of 1969 and I was stationed at March AFB, Riverside
Having just rotated from S.E.Asia, my new bride and I were looking for things to do.
The LA Kings somehow came up and with mounting excitement, off we went to the Fabulous Forum.
What? A hockey sell out in LA?
We got there late, having to park past the cemetery and walked up hearing the deafening roar of what turned out to be a sell out crowd.
Little did we know that the walk past the cemetery was to be symbolic of decades of frustration and heartache.
It wasn't till 1970-71 season, when I went to work for a major defense contractor that I was able to attend games with a vengeance.
Missed only one home game without season seats.
Of course the fact that JKC teams drew only about 2000 for most games made 'custom seating' a breeze.
Feels good being there to see the early Kings, Eddie Joyal, Bill Flett, Butch Goring, Gilles Marotte, watching the Triple Crown line become a formidable scoring threat.
I was there when "Dangerous' Dan Maloney beat up St Louis enforcer Steve Durbano. and I was there for 'The Brawl' in 1981, the only playoff game I have ever attended.
I first saw Wayne Gretzky with the Edmonton Oilers vs L.A. Sharks at the Sports Arena before Edmonton was absorbed into the NHL.
The Gretzky Era brought much needed respectability to hockey in LA and the resulting crowds and job relocation forced me to root from afar.
Gone were the days of 'pick a seat'.
Then, then, the curse of JKC was broken in 2011 with the Kings first ever Stanley Cup.
Salve for the tortured soul yes but still no assurance that the 'queens' had finally become Kings.
Now, twice in three years brings up thoughts of the "D" word.
As long as we have one of the greatest coaches of all time, I guess anything is possible.
Go Kings Go.
I have recently begun playing online golf, so it is with much surprise to see the LA Kings/Childrens Hospital Golf tournament in Sept.
I have created a Country Club: Sticks and Pucks Country Arena on the WGT Golf website, celebrating the Kings Cup victory.
I am looking to fill the Arena with hockey fans that believe 'Hockey is Life. Everything else is but a Game"
We have a 4 round, 9 hole a round tournament now in progress which will close in Sept to coincide with the Kings real life tournament.
Show your King pride to 10 million duffers worldwide and help call attention to Children's Hospital LA.
Free to sign up, free to play, no download required.

Look for my player profile under Junkyardboyz
Join Sticks and Pucks Country Arena and play, play, play.
I have also recently contacted Childrens Hospital and made a donors page so those of us unable to attend the real tournament can still contribute.
I plan on pledging $.25 a stroke over the 4 rounds.
Any more and a hacker like me would have to sell the family farm.
Excitedly awaiting the 2014/2015 season.
There is joy in Mudville.
Go Kings Go
Thanks for your attention,

I kinda wish I played online golf now, the closest I ever came was that orbitz pop up ad about 10 years ago.
Welcome here and thanks!

Does anyone remember Def. Paul Curtis?
True grit and toughness were his biggest talents.

A challenge to all Kings fans.
Most of us can never hope to be able to play in the LA Kings/Children's Hospital Benefit Tournament.
That is until now.

I established the Sticks and Pucks Country Arena to celebrate the Kings Stanley Cup.
We currently have our own LA Kings/Children's Hospital tournament in virtual golf.
Problem is, the Country Club doesn't have nearly enough King's fans.
I have also set up a direct donor site to Children's Hospital to commemorate our Kings.
Any and all donations go directly to Children's Hospital.
