New fan. New member. Grateful down to my socks.
I'm a Torrance mom who's too old to have a nine-year old son but has one anyway. The teacher he had last year for second grade is the biggest Kings fan in North America. It took us all a while but eventually the whole family got bit, right around the end of the playoffs. While watching one of the finals games on TV our son, who happens to be a high-functioning autistic, said, "I think I might like to learn how to ice skate." He started taking lessons in August and is still at it. He's not Alec Martinez yet, but by God he's doin' it, and if you're acquainted with autism you know that that's a huge deal. He pays attention to the team in a way that's very healthy for a kid who's on the spectrum. Anze Kopitar is his favorite player, but I'm happy to say he knows all of the guys. He hates the Sharks and declares that the Blackhawks "have had way too much success this year."
The fun index in our house has shot up since this started. My husband and I watch all the games on TV and have been to a couple of live games now. We don't speak hockey yet. Meeting some of the fans has been great. I've never been a sports fan in my life (except for All Blacks Rugby) so I was shocked to find out how stressful it is! I decided that I will not be fair-weather fan. I love it when the Kings win, I don't like it when they lose, but I'm so grateful to them for the value they've added to our lives that I reckon I'll be a supporter forever.
The husband's a Penner/Muzzin/Quick specialist. Brown's my guy. Oh, and Scuderi. And Voynov.
Go Kings, Go!

Welcome and glad to hear the teachers in Torrance are still getting the job done. I grew up there and living in northern cal now with kids I didn't realize how nice it was to have good schools nearby.
Keep that kid skating! It's a great sport.
