Not really "new".....just finally getting around to doing this
Well, I figured that since I have been commenting on here for almost a year now, I might as well officially introduce myself. Those of you who are already irritated by me can just move along....
First of all, I am a "girl" but, sadly, I am not hot.
I have been a Kings fan since the 87-88 season when my husband, aka PuckBoy, (who was then my fiance), and I used to listen to games on the radio. This was when Bob Miller was still doing the radio play by play, and he was always saying "Luc Robitaille!" I just thought it was a funny name and went around saying it with gusto just like Bob, but at weird random times. Then we went to a game and I decided to see what this Robitaille guy looked like in the program. I was hooked on hockey from that moment on! But, lest you think I am just a puckbunny, I also immediately fell in love with the game of hockey and learned all the rules, because that's just how I am. I have even read the entire rule book in the past, but that was during my playing days.
Yes, around 1990 PuckBoy took up playing hockey. I had skated since I was 4 years old, but always on figure skates. After about a year of yelling at PuckBoy from the bleachers, I decided to join the fun. I must say, it was harder than I expected. Probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. But I kept at it and got much better. I haven't played for about 9 years now, though, due to having a child and no money, but I have set a goal to get back to it before I turn 50 in 2 years.
Speaking of our child, PuckBoy and I have a daughter named Easton...as in the brand of hockey equipment. She was named by the guys on our team when we announced I had to quit playing for awhile since I was pregnant. They said, "what are you going to name it, Easton?" And we said, "Hey, we like that!" (didn't know at the time if it was a boy or girl). Despite having her at the rink from the time she was 12 weeks old, taking her to her first Kings game at about 6 months old, the women's bronze medal game at the 2002 Oympics, and having a portrait of Wayne Gretzky in our living room and one of Dave Taylor in our office, Easton does not like hockey. She did watch a little of the SCF with us last year. (she's a teenager now)
Last season was so incredible, and after lurking around LGK, I decided I had to get in on the commenting for the playoffs, so I signed up. I couldn't think of a screen name other than the one I use for my other passion, science fiction. My screen name pays tribute to my love of Doctor Who and the books of Douglas Adams.
PuckBoy is a native Angeleno and has been a Kings fan for all 46 years of the Kings' existence, so I was so happy his dreams of a Stanley Cup Champion team finally came true last season and that we got to go to the rally! One of the best days of our lives.
If you are still reading, you deserve to know that my real name is Susan. I am originally from Springfield, IL but have lived in LA (West Valley these days) since 1986.
Now....back to my serious vBookie addiction!
