Thread: Is this season for real?

Seriously, I'm in disbelief. I keep expecting to wake up from a dream.

Anyhow, just found LGK and didn't want to be left out of the fun.

My fondness for hockey started after I went to a few Milwaukee Admirals games in the early-mid 80's when I was a kid. I didn't follow hockey much until around 1990 when I got a pair of Rollerblades and started playing street hockey.

I was living in California at the time and the Kings were the sole NHL team in the state back then. The only hockey I could watch with any regularity was on Prime Ticket back when they broadcast all the Kings games. Up to that point I hadn't watched any NHL. I got to know the team well over my first season watching them, and being the closest thing I had to a "home" team, they got the nod. I've drifted away from following hockey a time or two since then, but I've been a loyal Kings fan the whole time.

Watching this team in the playoffs has rekindled my love for hockey to the point that I'm thinking of strapping a pair of ice skates and some pads onto my late 30's body, and learning to play this wonderful game for real.

Seeing I grew up in the Valley and we had no ice in the ghetto I grew up on rollerblades playing street hockey. Oh those were some good times!

I was in high school when I started playing. We lived in a small town and we were the only people living there that played. It took a few years before we found enough people to play pick up games. So many good times though.

I thought about picking up roller hockey again, but one of the San Diego ice rinks has an adult developmental class on Friday nights that teaches the basics of skating, puck handling, passing, and shooting. I priced out all the gear, and now I'm just waiting until I don't have to keep money aside for playoff tickets. I might still pick up a pair of roller hockey skates to practice off ice, but I hope to be on the ice in June.

Btw, I didn't mention it in my OP, but I did live in LA from 95-07, mostly in the valley as well.

It is never too late to get back into it. I just got in literally right before the season started. I played hockey as a kid and swore off it once I injured my knee really bad. Thankfully I was reintroduced last year and now I am back on the ice. It is just hard feeling like such a newbie relearn how to even stop on the ice LOL. Welcome!
