One thing I want to do is to do a hitter and pitcher of the day. I'm gonna do my best to do that every day.

    So with out further adieu

Hitter and Pitcher of the day 4/9/09

    Hitter

Tony Delmonico - C - Great Lake Loons (Low Class A)

Delmonico had 2 Home Runs in his professional debut as a catcher. He also added a triple as he went 3-4 on the day driving in three runs and scoring four. Delmonico also walked twice.

Honorable Mention: Kyle Russell - RF - Great Lakes Loons (Low Class A)

Russell homered and also had a triple in the Loons' rout of Dayton (14-3). He drove in three and scored three.

    Pitcher

Jon Michael Redding - RHP - Great Lakes Loons (Low Class A)

Redding went 5.2 innings striking 6 and walking only 2. He allowed just one run on three hits.

No outstanding starts today, although Scott Elbert started for Chattanooga (AA). He went 4 innings striking out 3. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits.

    Hitter/Pitcher of the day 4/11/09

    Hitter

Andrew Lambo - OF - Chattanooga Lookouts (AA)

Our #1 prospect according to Baseball America was a HR shy of the cycle today. Despite the three hits, Lambo did not record an RBI however he did score two runs.

    Pitcher

Ethan Martin - RHP - Great Lakes Loons (Low Class A) & Josh Lindblom - RHP - Chattanooga Lookouts

I went with both guys as the "Pitcher of the Day, since as hypersonic brought up both guys were outstanding in their first starts of the year.

Martin making his professional debut, pitched five innings of shutout ball, scattering two hits, while striking out four and walking just 2. Martin earned his first ever professional victory as the Loons won 2-0 (Javy Guerra getting his first save of the year)

Lindblom earned his first win of the year as well. He also went five innings, striking out six and walked none. Linblom's lone earned run came off a solo shot in the 4th.

    Hitter/Pitcher of the day 4/12/09

    Hitter

    Pedro Baez - 3B - Inland Empire 66ers (A+)

Baez only had one hit but it was a 3-run Home Run that broke the game open for the 66ers as they won 7-2

    Pitcher

    Chris Withrow - RHP - Inland Empire 66ers (A+)

Withrow was dominant in his debut this year as he pitched six innings of shutout ball striking out six and walking just two in the process. Very encouraging start by debut as his season last year was marred by injuries. Withrow picked up a win to go 1-0 on the year.

    Hitter/Pitcher of the day 4/13/09

    Hitter

    Tommy Giles - OF - Inland Empire 66ers (A+)

Giles doesn't really get a lot of hype, but the Miami alum has hit at every level the Dodgers have put him at. Last year he had 100 RBI for the 66ers and is off to a fast start for Inland Empire once again. On Monday, Giles hit twoHRs and collected six RBI. He finished the day 3-5 with three runs scored as the 66ers pounded Lancaster 16-1.

    Pitcher

Justin Miller - RHP - Great Lakes Loons (A-)

Miller is considered one of our sleeper prospects. He is relativley new to pitching but he features a heavy sinkerball that gets him out of a lot of trouble. In the Loons home opener, Miller went 6 strong innings for the win, allowing just one earned run and striking out three. True to form he induced eleven groundouts against four flyouts.

    BA Chat Wrap

Joseph (Whittier): Do you think the Dodgers system could take a big step forward this season? They seem to have a lot of high end pitching in the low minors with Martin, Withrow, Eovaldi, and Lindblom and Elbert potentially reaching L.A. later this year. Who do you like best of this group, and what have you heard about middle infield prospect Devaris Gordon?

SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:06 PM ET ) The Dodgers system has taken a dip after promoting a lot of talent to the majors and not drafting all the way up to their recent lofty standards for a couple of years. I do like that high-end pitching, and I like Ethan Martin the most. He's flying under the radar a little because he tweaked a knee and couldn't make his pro debut last summer, but he was the best high school pitcher in last year's draft and is very, very good. Gordon, who's Tom Gordon's son, had a tremendous debut and is a quality athlete with a high ceiling. He flew under the draft radar last year because he was academically ineligible at a junior college.
John (Cincinnati, OH): James McDonald(LAD) long term. Starter or Reliever?

SportsNation Jim Callis: (3:00 PM ET ) Starter.

    From Tony Jackson's blog

Also, Tony Abreu is going to be out for a WHILE. He was on crutches for a week after he suffered the injury. Stan saw him last weekend when the Dodgers were in AZ and said he was doing better, but he also said these injuries are typically three- to six-week deals.
    What else is new!?

    Hitter/Pitcher of the day 4/14/09

    Hitter

Xavier Paul - OF - Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA)

Paul is in his second year in AAA and at the very least will be a September call up this season. Paul is off to a fast start this year, he went 3-5 yesterday with a triple and three RBI. Paul is hitting .450 on the year.

    Pitcher

Brent Leach - LHP - Chattanooga Lookouts (AA)

It wasn't a good day for starting pitchers in the Dodgers organization. So Leach is the pitcher of the day after pitching three scoreless innings in relief. L
