Sources: Dodgers getting close to deal with Padilla - MLB News - FOX Sports on MSN

Looks like "bad-guy" Padilla could be a Dodger as soon as today. With Smoltz heading to the Cardinals, Padilla was really the only other option out there to help the rotation.

I know dude has been considered a terrible teammate and the Rangers organization seemed thrilled to let him go for nothing, but the optimistic Dodger fan in me hopes for success based on the following items:

Going from the AL to NL usually helps
Going to a "pitchers park" in Dodgers Stadium helps
He's pitching for a new contract somewhere
Torre's skills won't let him be a clubhouse problem

It's obvious the Dodgers didn't want Arroyo or Harang because they both had huge contracts for 2010, so Padilla is worth the $100k risk. I'm just hoping he doesn't follow in the footsteps of James Baldwin, Kevin Tapani, and Esteban Loaiza

Not to mention, Arroyo just plain sucks.

That too. I was ok with Harang, I think he's pretty talented and at least a legit #3 starter. But he's making $12.5 mill next year, and has a mutual option for $14 mill in 2011 if traded. That's way too much.

Yea, Padilla seems like a bit of a risk just because he is so crazy. I wouldn't mind seeing Elbert finally get a chance in the rotation. I get the reasoning behind Padilla, just makes me nervous. Like you mentioned, guys on the Rangers sounded like they were throwing parties when he was DFA'd.

Loney with a double, go-ahead run in scoring position with 2 outs.

    C'mon Dodgers!
