Fair enough, but it's not like control is a recurring problem with Broxton. He's walked all of 24 guys in 56 IP. He didn't get Pujols--it happens.

Obviously the recent slump is concerning, but his numbers (K/BB, WHIP, opp. BA) are improved on last year, so I find the "he can't handle the closer role" comments--I know you didn't say this, but it seems to be a common sentiment--to be a bit silly also.

As usual, Weisman is spot on.

I like option C on the poll question of the night... considering it's impossible for SF and COL to be tied after their 3 game series with COL leading by 2 games now.

I'm voting for the first time tonight. Go "C"!!!!

Now that I think about it if SF wins 2 games and the third gets rained out it could be tied...but I doubt poll question guy thought about that.

Broxton gets the save, COL loses, and all is well for one night.

Weird win (Wolf knocks in the 2 runs with a 2B?? hahaha.. cool, good for him!) but, hey.. it's a W in the bank no matter how it comes.

    Excellent combined 1-hitter!

Add in a nice 1-2-3 9th by Broxton with no drama = Excellent!

Thanks for the link, that was good reading. Indeed I may have been too over-critcal of Broxton when he did not deserve it. I think the back-to-back dingers in AZ last week did weird things to me.

As far as my "looks scared" comments, maybe that is just his personal "concentration" look/facial expression and I am misreading it. Cool... as if I've never been wrong before. WTF do I know about each of the Dog's personality traits? (Nothing)

Ok, maybe it is time for me to start hating on the recent complete lack of offense? Yeah, that's the ticket!

Dang J. anyway!! Is that just for this year or is it a career thing? You were a 2-time All-Star before the J. showed up and you are less than average now...

Was at the game last night and overall it was a great game. And that's coming from a Cubs fan.

I did notice the Blue Ball Crew having a little difficulty on the base paths last night. It seemed as though there were a few near pickoffs, a base running flaw by Wolf (was he thinking there were 2 outs?), Juan Pierre getting caught stealing (which doesn't happen often). But for Wolf, Sherrill and Broxton to put together a 1-hit win, I thought the team did a pretty good job.

Wolf's double surprised both the friend I went with and I. Assuming it was going to be the end of the inning, he got up to take his daughter to the bathroom and missed the run-scoring double. Nice job of helping himself out.

And yes, Broxton seems to be much improved over what I remember of him last season. It seemed like when he came in then, you had to wonder which one would show up. He's still a little shaky at times, but far less frequently than I remember. And last night he came in and performed flawlessly.

Thank God the Padres beat the Cards to keep the Cubs from dropping further in the standings! And at least my 2nd favorite baseball team won last night!

It does actually, more than you'd think.

Actually that happens 30.3% of the time this year according to Jon Weisman.

Pierre is 10 for 30 with two walks as a pinch-hitter this season, but he has now been caught stealing in 30.3% of his attempts in 2009.
