ATLANTA (AP)—In a stunning move, the Atlanta Braves released 305-game winner Tom Glavine(notes) on Wednesday, just when it seemed he was ready to return to the big leagues.
The 43-year-old Glavine, who was coming back from shoulder and elbow surgery, threw six scoreless innings for Class-A Rome on Tuesday night and proclaimed himself ready to pitch in the majors again.
Instead, the Braves cut him, another move that figures to draw the ire of Atlanta fans after the team failed to re-sign John Smoltz(notes) during the offseason.
Who's going to grab him? I'm thinking this probably will be pretty quick...
I'm guessing nobody. I think Glavine is done.
Pick up Tommy Hanson in your fantasy leagues. He's been rotting on my bench thus far.
That might change, he will be making his major-league debut on Saturday against Milwaukee.

No thanks. Glavine was terrible last year. I don't think the Braves fans at least the smart ones are upset in the least.

According to Frank Wren,it was a mutual agreement since Glavine asked for his release. Joe Simpson and Skip during the game today.Medlen will be moved to the bullpen and as mentioned Tommy Hanson will start on Saturday.
Glavine seems to think it's a financial move (to help pay for new addition McClouth's salary), but from a purely baseball standpoint, this is a good move as it clears the way for Hanson.
I love Glavine and he will always have a place in this Braves fan's heart, but he should've never left to New York in the first place, so this move doesn't quite have the sting for me as it would've had he been a lifelong Brave.
