So apparently the umps were in the wrong last night and Broxton should not have been forced to leave the game.

SFGate: San Francisco Giants : The Splash : Umpires' error in last night's game

Henry Schulman just spoke to a league official who said the umpires in last night's Dodgers-Giants game erred in forcing Jonathan Broxton from the game.

The official said that the rule requiring a pitcher to be removed after two mound visits should have been superseded by a comment underneath Rule 8.06 that says if two mound visits occur while the same batter is up, the umpires must eject the manager and require the pitcher to face that batter. Only then, should the pitcher be removed.

The mistake was discovered as the umpiring crew engaged in its normal postmortem with league umpiring evaluators.

Had the Dodgers protested the game, there is a chance the protest would have been upheld, and the game replayed. But the league official said the Dodgers neglected to protest the game.

Problem solved! All we need is a starter to throw a complete game shutout and we're good!

Doubt it. You do fine against az and pitt but sd has some tough series coming up. That and you only play one series against a team with a losing record in sept. Plus your young pitchers should start hitting a wall soon. It's setting up nicely for a classic san diego choke job.

lath19 makes a good point. Sdeezy is in an awkward bind. They peaked too early. Although it is in their best long term interest to be sellers, they really can't. It would devastate their young'uns and also have bad long term consequences.

I figured SD would be good but not this good. And as much as I love the Doyers, there is no way they win this division. Unless Kershaw and Billingsley become Koufax and Drysdale (which is something I said before the season started)

If I had money to lose, I'd wager Colorado by a hair. They have yet to go on their annual tear.

Not that I have much faith in the dodgers, but I think the starting pitching is the least of the worries. The bullpen needs to get healthy and the team needs to start hitting. I don't envision blake or martin getting better, dewitt is what he is, the entire outfield is inconsistent, furcal has been on a tear, and loney is good. Ethier, Kemp, and Manny need to step up.

This offense is so bad. They're lucky not to be 10 out right now. Why do I watch? I know they aren't scoring on san diego's pen.
