I find it hard to believe we made a last-minute pitch to get Girardi

Quite honestly, I'm finding it hard to believe we're going after Torre.

Some stuff from Neyer that warrants some discussion

Zack (NYC): Rob, Any chance Rivera or Pettite could leave the Steinbrothers in the lurch and head out to LA to be back with Torre?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: The Yankees will make Rivera an offer he can't refuse, and anyway the Dodgers already have a closer. Pettitte, perhaps.

Scott (LA): Do the Yankees have enough to outbid the Dodgers for Miguel Cabrera? I hear the Yanks want to trade Melky Cabrera but if the Dodgers decide they want to trade Matt Kemp, wouldn't the Yanks have to offer a better prospect than Cabrera?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: Scott, do the Dodgers really need/want Miguel Cabrera? They've already got promising young players at both third base and first base, Cabrera's two possible non-DH positions. Meanwhile, the Yankees now are in the market for a third baseman *and* a first baseman *and* -- before long -- a DH.

Lisa (LA): I am not sure we want Torre. Do the Dodgers really want all that media and pressure?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: I don't think that's going to be a big problem. That said, history's loaded with teams that tried to copy the Yankees. Usually it hasn't worked.

Jesse (Los Angeles, CA): Although I'm not a big fan of Grady Little, I think he's being treated unfairly by the Dodgers. That being said, bring on A-Rod!

SportsNation Rob Neyer: Gee, I don't know. Seems to me that it's just business. You know going in that if your employer can find somebody better, you're out. With a pretty nice consolation prize, in this case: one full year's salary.

Pettite sounds interesting, but he'd have to be really loyal to Torre to leave 16 million.
