We'd better hope Torre signs or it could end up being just like post-season '05 again while we search (and search and search and search and thank the LORD the Reds already signed ****ing Dusty Baker) for a new manager. Personally, I think it's a pretty chicken**** move by McCourt and Colletti after signing a guy to an extension and saying "He's our manager," after the season ended.

It doesn't happen right away FBJ, they have to fire the Grady Little first (check) and then have to follow league rules on doing a manager search.

Well, if the LA Times is right, we won't have to worry about that. It's saying the deal for Torre is agreed upon, just negotiating the salaries for his coaching staff...

Lieberthal and Martinez not optioned.

Wonder why not? Who's our backup catcher now? Lieberthal played fairly well (certainly better than Alomar or Mayne or Ross ever did). Martinez was a pretty good utility man. I imagine they'll try and re-sign Lieberthal for less money (IIRC, $1.5 mil last season, right?).

Because Abreu can fill 3 out of 4 IF positions, no reason to have both guys. I have read they want to bring Lieberthal back for less. If he doesn't comeback I don't think it's a big deal. I'm not too worried about our backup catching spot.

Isn't Abreu our 2B if Kent doesn't return? Wouldn't we still need a utility infielder? Nomar to fill that role perhaps?

Last time I checked Kent is our 2B. I'm pretty sure barring a trade which would be somewhat idiotic he will be our starting 2B. Kent is an idiot but he can hit. And if Torre comes in I think he'll be under control. Torre has dealt with worse.

As far as Nomar goes, usually you want your utility guy to be a sound defender at multiple positions. Not mediocre to bad at all of them.

I don't think Nomar will be a major contributer next season. The guy just doesn't have it and his defense sucks.

Agree with ASU. Kent's not done. If he thinks he is, hopefully it's because he is ready to be a full-time father and husband, as opposed to being too bitter to return after the way this season turned out. The blame lies with every player, not just the kids.



On another note, **** Torre. Where the hell is Buck Showalter and how much would it take to bring his ass to LA :D
