"In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." - Vin Scully being clairvoyant in 1988.
The Los Angeles Kings - 2012 Stanley Cup Champions
I finished his book a couple months ago and it sounded like he was a great Manager and Coach in the Minors. He's worked with Felipe Alou and he coached in the Bigs for the Rangers as well as the Red Sox. In both cases, he was someone hosed.
While with the Rangers, Bush ran for Governor which meant he wasn't running the team any longer. In the changeover of management, he got hosed because the new GM wanted his "own guys."
I can't remember the story off hand in Boston but he got hosed again by the GM. From what I remember, he was never really let go because of his lack of ability but more because of politics.
Working with Felipe Alou is supposed to be a good thing?
Conjecture is always fun, but I think Colletti and Frankie Mac have both made it pretty clear that Little's coming back in '08.
As for the offseason, I expect it to be pretty quiet for LA. What is there to do? That's within reason, I mean. I think you might see a 4-5 starter added via trade or signing, and maybe--maybe--a decent 3B or 2B if some combination of LaRoche, Abreu, Nomar, or Kent is either traded, released, or one of the latter two retires/opts out.
I think LA's pretty committed to the kids, and at this point, I'd wager that only LaRoche and/or Abreu would ever be dealt, and I'm not sure how much they'd fetch in return.
I think it's a good plan to stay put. A-Rod's a nice fantasy, but there's really no one out there that can really help the Dodgers a whole lot in reality. I say run with the kids and maybe adjust on the fly come next Spring and Summer.
If we didn't have Pierre, Andruw Jones might be interesting to look at. So it goes.
I'd love to see Steve Yeager manage the Dodgers.
