I am very happy to hear Andruw Jones isn't coming here. Now if Ned can only pull a miracle out of his ass and trade Pierre for anything, I'd be happy.

And no to that Japanase guy Fokodomeew! A poor man's Carlos Beltran? Give me a break.

    from Inside the Dodgers:

The first day of the meetings came and went relatively quietly, not just for us but for all of the teams. Ned met with all our media members late last night (during the finish of the Patriots game) and I think the most interesting thing that we learned was that a few years ago, he and Brian Sabean signed Tom Brady to a contract for $1 when he came out to take batting practice with the Giants.

Otherwise, he reiterated that starting pitching remains a top priority and that we've made an offer to Hiroki Kuroda, the Japanese starting pitcher who has been most highly sought. He said that while we do have an interest in Andruw Jones and/or Aaron Rowand, right now we're very far apart in both years and dollars for both players. The Miguel Cabrera situation does not appear to have changed at all, with demands simply too high for it to fit right now. And finally, he said that there are still a few of our own free agents who we are considering re-signing, including Mike Lieberthal, Mark Sweeney and Rudy Seanez, among others.

The rest of the day was filled with the previously mentioned great news that Walter O'Malley will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, as will former Brooklyn outfielder Dick Williams. We also signed an amateur Japanese pitcher named Robert Boothe.

    More rumblings.

2:56 p.m. ET, from Amy Nelson
The Orioles and Dodgers may be close on a deal that will send left-hander Erik Bedard to Los Angeles, a baseball source said. The O's are in need of a center fielder and a closer who can play at the major league level, and the Dogders seem willing to part with outfielder Matt Kemp and reliever Jonathan Broxton, who could come in a close in lieu of Chris Ray, out for the year after Tommy John surgery. "They want Bedard bad," said the source.

Kemp AND Broxton for Bedard? That's overpaying. We're already short on power - why trade our best power-hitting prospect?

Also, it's not very reassuring that Bedard suffered a strained oblique last season that sent him to the 60 day DL

I could see Pierre and Broxton for Bedard. No way they get Kemp as well. Ned couldn't be this stupid could he??

Bedard is a stud who is signed for 2 more years. It was thought the Orioles were asking for the same type of deal that Florida wanted for Cabrera or Minny wanted for Santana, i.e 3 or 4 of LA's top young players.

Kemp and Broxton only is a pretty good deal from LA's perspective, better for LA than I thought it would take to get Bedard who is highly sought after. But it depends if they have a deal elsewhere to add a power hitter to replace Kemp's production. The same ESPN update says the Dodgers and Cards are talking Rolen. If they pull a move for Rolen, then the Bedard deal might make more sense.

That trade (with the Brewers) is unlikely to get finalized, but the Cardinals are talking with the Giants and Dodgers about Rolen. And it's possible, though not probable, they could complete a deal with one of those teams before the meetings end Thursday.

Kemp and Broxton are studs who are signed for many more years (so to speak).

    Kemp & Broxton > Bedard

    Too much movement here.

Keep the kids and play them! I am so sick of all this BS! Agree with DHK, keep Kemp and let Joe manage him. Let him become our next great player. He is the power hitter we have been looking for!

Our power problem will be compounded enormously if we trade Kemp. Also, who will close when Saito retires? He's in his late 30s, lest we forget.
