Rather sad, even if I'm a Sox fan.
Can't say that I liked the man but he was certainly one-of-a-kind and very philanthropic when it came to Red Sox charities. I'm glad we have the younger Steinbrenners to carry the torch...if nothing else, that family has made it a very interesting franchise and the perfect ownership group for a New York team.
I would certainly take Big Stein over any penny-pincher who only cared about lining his pockets.
Just watching ESPN right now. Didn't know he was rebuffed in buying the Indians before buying the Yankees.
He probably was hard to live with but you can't argue with his results.
A real character who will be missed.

my life wouldn't have been the same without this man. for good or bad, the world was a better place for having George a part of it... and i DESPISE the Yankees with every fiber of my being.
20 bucks says the first thing he does when he gets where he's going is argue with Billy Martin.
I despise the Yankees to hell and back and its probably because of Steinbrenner. However, it's because of his "I'll do whatever it takes" attitude that makes me somewhat admire him.
RIP.

Sad to hear. He was one of a kind, and love them or bitterly, bitterly hate them, he put together a franchise that's fun as hell to watch year after year. :rip:
