    Default Holliday traded to Oakland

Per SI.com, the A's have traded for Rockies slugger Matt Holliday. Big move for Oakland, though I am skeptical they could re-sign him particularly since Boras is his agent.

Wouldn't doubt this is a move where the A's try to make a serious run at the playoffs next year, and if they are out of contention in July they flip Holliday to a contender and try to re-coup the assets they dealt to Colorado.

    Bold move that's for sure.

Whatever they gave up, I'm just happy to see Holliday out of the division.

Home/Road splits are something to take a look at regarding Holliday by the way. Awesome in Coors, on the road not so much...

Yea, that makes sense. The A's have built of a lot of prospect depth, so even if they gave up a some high level guys they will still have a solid farm system.

Be interesting if we see any knee jerk reactions from the Angels.

The Rockies will receive outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, left-handed pitcher Greg Smith and closer Huston Street in return, though they may not keep Street. One source said Monday that the Rockies are prepared to turn around and trade him -- though to which team he wasn't sure.

I can't wait to have a chat with my friend from the Oakland area to see what he thinks.

I'm an A's fan, and of right now I hear it is Carlos Gonzalez, Greg Smith, and Huston Street.

A lot of websites are saying the A's dealt a lot for him, but considering Holliday is a former MVP finalist, I say it was a great deal.

They weren't going to resign Street, and were looking to deal him anyways so that's not much of a surprise.

Greg smith was definitely expendable, if you look at the A's farm system combined with who is already in the show, they have more pitchers then they know what to do with. Inoa, Gallagher, Anderson, Cahill, Eveland, Duke, Gio Gonzalez, De Los Santos....

Carlos Gonzalez is the only one that really hurts if he is gone. Obviously Holliday replaces him, but I don't know what is in store for him after this year.

The way I see it, the A's will probably deal Holliday at the deadline for way more value than Street, Smith, and Cargo

I for one am excited to see what is cooking in Billy Beane's mind.

You are right, he will be dealt to a contender for prospects during the year next year. Still playing Money-Ball
