Though he's had plenty of experience in the NL (though none of it recent), Torre's managing record in the NL is abysmal.

    894 wins and 1,003 losses. That's a .471 average.

It'd be a MAJOR PR move to bring him here. Him managing here would undoubtedly garner serious attention to the Dodgers from the FA market. But to me, that's the only upside thus far.

I would think in NY he developed a different managing style and got to learn from his mistakes. The only difference I believe he'll see is the no-DH issue and the NL runs more.

You'd think he'd have learned from his mistakes some time during the first 1,900 games he managed.

I'm not saying he wasn't a good manager for the Yankees, I'm just trying to keep things grounded here. He ain't the be-all-end-all.

Naw, he's not a Phil Jackson but me thinks he's an upgrade over Grady Gump. I know the contract amount may hurt but it could put more butts in the seats. Not to mention how much players loved playing for him, maybe would be a another good reason to have him in the dugout considering what happened in the end last year with the Dodgers.

Plus TJ Simers needs someone else to talk smack about, he's getting rusty beating the same horses in LA Sports...

Torre was key with the Yankees in developing young talent like Jeter, Pettite, Williams, Posada, Rivera, etc. Dodgers have a large core of young talent that needs a leader to develop them and Torre is perfect for the job.

Plaschke on ESPN is reporting the same.

LA Times reports Torre and the Dodgers have agreed to the terms but the money for his coaching staff isn't a done deal yet.

Colletti is scheduled to have a conference call later today.
