And now Steve Dilbeck of the Daily News is pleading with the Dodgers to resist the urge to trade Ethier. I have to admit that I second his motion to keep Ethier!

Good one by Dilbeck.
Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Bullets are cheap. Life is priceless.
Outside of Ned and Grady does anybody think Juan-for-5 is good? If Ethier gets traded because Pierre is clogging up the OF I am really going to hate Juan.
Ethier should and I think he will. Not because I have a ton of faith in Ned holding on to young talent. There just isn't much of a 2008 FA class in the OF. With Ethier & Gonzo gone that leaves a hole in the outfield (well 2 if you count Pierre). Andruw Jones is obviously the top FA but there isn't much after him. Hunter, Jones, and Rowand are out of the question with Juan in CF. Byrnes and Dye, meh. Reggie Sanders for 3/12? That's a Ned deal waiting to happen. At least he should be guaranteed a starting spot by next year I would think...
Lets just hope Flanders learned his lesson from last summer. The best way to improve the team is to let the young talent play. Don't block them with vets. I should give him the benefit of the doubt as he hasn't traded any of the good young Dodgers yet but the Sabean influence worries me.
Saw this on http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ and thought it was funny.
It seems unlikely that the Diamondbacks will sign 31 year-old outfielder Eric Byrnes to a contract extension. According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the team won't even approach Juan Pierre's five-year, $45MM deal. And Juan Pierre isn't good.
Whapee In July
Games: 14
AB: 62
Runs: 14
Hits: 21
Doubles: 3
Triples: 1
HR: 0
RBI: 5
Total Bases: 26
BB: 2
Strikeouts: 2
Stolen Bases: 8
Caught Stealing: 1
OBP: .359
SLG: .419
AVG: .339
There's some stats there that need some improvement. His walks are low, but then again his Ks are low, too, and his AVG is high. I'd rather have a guy like him hit than walk anyday. He's hitting .455 with a man on first and .600 with a man on second in July. Pretty good, when you consider that more often than not, that man is Furcal.
Bottom line is he's having a pretty decent month so far, offensively. I think he's doing what the team wants him to do. He's still got a noodle arm, but goddammit he's contributing, even though he's not worthy of the super-star contract he's got.

Byrnes reminds me of the kid in little league...
you know...
THAT little kid...
The problem is that batting average fluctuates A LOT. Walk rate doesn't nearly as much, and a guy like Pierre is useless if he isn't on base.Originally Posted by FlyBoeingJets
What, is that all of 10-15 at-bats you're citing there?Originally Posted by FlyBoeingJets
We must be really desperate to praise Pierre to salute three good weeks after three terrible months. Yes he's having a good July, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
Take an everyday spot from one of Kemp/Ethier, and money we could use elsewhere?Originally Posted by FlyBoeingJets
What's funny is 5yr/45mil isn't even a superstar contract anymore... the times they are a-changin'.Originally Posted by FlyBoeingJets
