Wolf had no pain in his rehab assignment and is with the Dodgers. Looks like Lowe won't miss a start. Neither should Penny if it's only a cramp. Bills just had his best outing. Tomko has only given up 1 ER in his last two starts (until he gets bombed tonight). Hopefully Ned sees this and doesn't start hocking off young talent for rent-a-vet starters.

The Rangers evidently would receive three highly regarded young players — catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class AA left-hander Matt Harrison and Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus — while sending the Braves only Teixeira. The Dodgers are the wild card, but the questionable state of their rotation could take them out of the Teixeira sweepstakes.
The Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Braves and Cubs all are interested in Royals right-hander Zack Greinke, but it is doubtful the Royals would trade him unless they were overwhelmed.

Greinke, 23, has excelled as a reliever this season, and some teams still like him as a starter. The Royals, though, control him through 2010.

"They can't trade Greinke right now, they can't do it," one rival executive says. "They'd be crazy if they did."

The Royals do plan to trade closer Octavio Dotel, but maybe not to the Dodgers, the early front-runner.

The Dodgers also are considering other relievers, and rather than continue waiting, the Royals might strike the best deal they can with another club, most likely the Indians. Outfielder Ben Francisco could be the player they get in return.

    Some rumors....

Kennedy's name has been linked to the Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Brewers upgraded their bullpen Wednesday by acquiring Scott Linebrink from San Diego. A Philadelphia Daily News story that ran Thursday suggested the Phillies might not be looking to deal for anyone. It's unclear how serious the Dodgers would be about obtaining Kennedy.

The Dodgers, who had a scout watch Proctor pitch an inning in Wednesday night's 9-4 victory over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium and were on hand again last night when the red-hot Yankees attempted to bag a four-game sweep, have an interest in bringing Proctor back to the organization where he started his professional career.

"He didn't pitch very well [Wednesday] but at least he had his fastball," the scout said of Proctor, who wasn't with the team Monday and Tuesday in order to be in Florida for the birth of his son, Cooper. Proctor retired the first two batters before giving up a single and hitting a batter. He was replaced by Mike Myers to face lefty-swinging Mark Teahen.

Most of that talk I've heard centers around the Sox making a move for Teixeira, then flipping Lowell and a bullpen arm to L.A. to get LaRoche.

Barring that the Dodgers would need to take a deal that I consider below LaRoche's value, like Hansen (who has looked positively electric lately in Pawtucket) and another fringe piece. Some have actually said Wily Mo Pena, with the move freeing up another OF guy to be flipped for the 3B help desired.

From a Bosox fan I know in my email. Take it for what it's worth, but smells like a three team trade in the works.

    Lowell and a bullpen arm?

Not that I don't like Lowell, but where would he play? With Nomar playing very well defensively at 3rd and starting to hit again, I don't think there's any need for a third baseman unless Betemit goes in the deal. And even then, why platoon two right-hitting third basemen? Not only that, but he's an OLD MAN!!
Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Bullets are cheap. Life is priceless.
