Gonzo HAD to hold since Ward played that ball very well. HE knew he couldn't catch it, but from Gonzo's view on first base, it would have been nearly impossible to tell with the way Ward was charging with his glove up.
Martin simply got doubled up on his secondary lead. That laser-beam hit was in Theriot's glove and thrown to first base before Martin could get back.
Both were close. Neither were base running mistakes. Just good defensive plays and crappy luck for the Dodgers.
